Program Overview:

If you are interested in storytelling, writing, journalism, reporting, film/television/radio production and digital media, Media and Communication is for you.

 

Specializations are generally available in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Production, Digital Production and so on. 

 

On top of effective and ethical communication, media management, critical analysis, research and problem solving skills, students will also develop an advanced awareness of local, national and international issues.

 

Depending on which major you enroll in, you will be skilled for careers in advertising, film and television, public relations, journalism, publishing and digital media.

 

Career Prospect:

Graduates can be employed as announcers, broadcasters, columnists, copywriters, editors, event managers, film production crew, media producers, public relations consultants, online writers/bloggers, publishers, etc.

 

A survey conducted by JobsDB in December 2015 showed that “Media and Advertising” and “Marketing and Public Relations” are the 2nd and 3rd ideal careers respectively for fresh graduates in Hong Kong. Payroll per person in the Information and Communications industry has seen a 3.6% increase in the 3rd quarter of 2016 compared with the same quarter in 2015, according to the Quarterly Report of Wage and Payroll Statistics by the Census and Statistics Department.  

 

According to Australian Government Job Outlook, occupations in the Information Media and Telecommunication sector showed a steady to strong employment growth in the past five years and will continue to stay so in the coming few years. Occupations such as Journalists and Other Writers recorded an average weekly earnings of A$1,300; Advertising and Sales Managers A$1,750; Artistic Directors, Media Producers and Presenters A$1,744 and Film, Television, Radio and Stage Directors A$1,411.

 

Program Length: 3 Years

 

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Australian Year 12 with ATAR of 60; or
  • IB: 24; or
  • HKDSE: 12; or
  • Completion of required Foundation or Diploma Program with required score; and
  • English requirement: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL Total 534 paper-based / 60 internet-based

 

2023 Tuition Fee: A$30,840 - A$48,000 per year
