上一期《iEducaiton歌歌學英文》提及書展，現因疫情延期，説到「延期」，相信有意前往、正在澳洲留學或剛畢業的學生及家長都得悉澳洲延畢業簽證居留期限至5年，並鋪路申請永久居留權。

「簽證延期」的英文可以說 “to extend visas”，但「書展延期」卻不能說 “to extend the book fair”，爲什麽呢?

答案： “Extend” 是「延續」、「延長 (某東西的期限)」的意思，而 “postpone” 則是「押後」，所以如果說 “to extend the book fair”，就會變成「書展延長」了。

“Extend” 還有很多用法，大家不妨記起來，日常生活中可以靈活運用：

例子(一)：My parents extended their hands to the principal when being introduced.

例子(二)：I am more than happy to extend a helping hand if needed.

例子(三)：Mom extended an invitation to her to stay.

例子(一) 和 (二) 的 “extend” 都是「伸出」的意思，(一) 是實際的動作，(二) 正如中文「伸出援手」一樣，作爲比喻，有「提供」的含義；(三) 的 “extend” 是 「提出」、「表示」。

今期介紹的歌曲也很賞心悅目，是迪士尼動畫《風中奇緣》（”Pocahontas”）的插曲 “Just Around the River Bend”：

當中一句歌詞就有 “extend” 的另一個用法：

I look once more just around the river bend (我再看河流彎曲處一眼)
Beyond the shore somewhere past the sea (越過河岸 越過海洋的某處)
Don't know what for why do all my dreams extend (不知道爲什麽 何以我的夢想伸延)
Just around the river bend, just around the river bend (到就在河流彎曲處 就在河流彎曲處)
