Profile

Prince Alfred College is one of Australia’s leading schools for boys.

We proudly acknowledge more than 150 years of tradition in educating boys, and embrace a contemporary education based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Prince Alfred College offers boys and young men an outstanding education in a beautiful environment near the centre of Adelaide, only 15 minutes by car from the Adelaide International Airport.

The vision of ‘Inspiring Excellence’ is seen across the life of the School. This holistic education focuses on academic achievement, together with sport, the arts, technology, community service and leadership opportunities. We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities. Pastoral care and support of our students is a priority.

International students enrich our College in many ways. Their global outlook produces students who are truly citizens of the world.

Many international students achieve outstanding academic results in both the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD) and South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Most Year 12 students gain first round offers to the University of their choice with popular courses being Medicine, Law, International Relations, Commerce, Engineering and Health Sciences. Recently our graduate have been offered places at Universities all over Australia and the world.

We currently host approximately 55 students from China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

A wide range of support and pastoral care is available for International students. The International Students Transition Program (ISTP) is situated on campus and provides a course in intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) and cultural understanding. Our International students are supported by Asian and English language speaking coordinators and staff, mentors, tutors and student counselors.

Both boarding and homestay accommodation is available for International students. We offer safe and welcoming boarding facilities for students in Years 7 to 12. Rural Australian and International students mix as part of the College community. Our boarders enjoy the extensive grounds and sporting facilities including the amazing new Health and Sports Centre on campus and take part in a range of sporting and recreational activities. Homestay accommodation with families living within easy distance of the College is also available.

We offer two pathways to tertiary study – the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). In 2013 our boys had an IBDP average ATAR of 97.3.

On arrival in Adelaide students are met by our International Students’ Coordinator and participate in a number of activities and programs that enable them to integrate into the School and wider community. Ongoing mentoring and support is available for International students.
