《iET Facebook 英語學堂》 第14周 : Premature

諾貝爾組織對諾貝爾和平獎得主、民權人士劉曉波病逝，發表回應，說 "The Chinese Government bears a heavy responsibility for his premature death" （中國政府對（劉曉波）早逝負沉重的責任）。

相信大家都知道“Mature”是「成熟」的意思，而對英文有一定認識的同學仔大概都知道前綴(prefix) ”pre” 解「之前」(如 ”pre-school” 是「學前」)，如此，”premature” 不難推測，就是「尚未成熟」/「未是是時候」/「過早」的意思，是一個非常實用的形容詞，所以日後想說有些事情 ”too early ”，可以選用這個高程度一點又易記的英文生字！

例子1:

DSE學生：Level 2 in Chinese and 1 in English. My life is over.

iET Consultant: It is too premature to say that.  There are many alternatives.  We may like to consider pathway that will lead to Yr 1 or Yr 2 degree at university.
