《iET Facebook 英語學堂》 第34周 : Alumnus vs Alumni 

相信很多人對 “Alumni” 這個字不陌生, 因爲每所學校都有 “Alumni Association” (「校友會」)，大家留意， “Alumni” 是眾數, 單數是 “Alumnus”，和我們認知的英文一般名詞眾數加 “s” 剛好相反。

這個字取自拉丁文， “Alumnus” 是指男校友 (或某公司/組織/團體的前成員)，女性的話用 “Alumna” (眾數 “Alumnae”) 。現時英文中，“Alumni” 包含了男和女，但如果是全女班，一般仍采用 “Alumnae” 。由於容易產生混淆，時至今日，有人用 “Alum” 代替所有， 但切記， “Alum” 是非正式用語，只適用於日常交談中，同學們考試時千萬別用。
